The fire took place last night (Monday) at around 10pm at the school ground in Clough Lane.

Parent Sarah Mathieson has now set up a Go Fund Me page. On it she said: "I'm trying to raise money for my daughter's school because someone broke into the school and set fire to the schools equipment which means the kids have lost their playground until it is fixed.

"I want to get the community together and hep raise as much as we can for Mr Shepard and Mr Mayfield so the children of Ash Green can have their playground back.

The building was used by pupils for lessons and outdoor performances was completely destroyed in the blaze and will be demolished.

Head teacher Mungo Sheppard said the incident is terribly sad news and it has had a knock on effect for children and parents.

"Parents and children are devastated. I've had to explain to the children what has happened and showed them pictures in assembly," he said.

"We had some fantastic support immediately. The emergency services did a great job and lots of people got in touch with me straight away.
